FAQ - DCFSL

  1. Are there deadlines for Letters of Intent?
Yes. Deadlines for Letters of Intent are 4:30pm February 1st and August 1st of every year. If these dates fall on a weekend, Letters of Intent are due the prior working day.

  2. Can I submit a Letter of Intent or proposal for a dental program?
The dental services focus area is by invitation only through a Request for Proposal process. We cannot accept Letters of Intent or unsolicited proposals for dental programs. Letters of Intent are accepted for the focus areas of Seniors Living Independently and Child Abuse & Neglect prevention. Please see the Funding Interests tab.

  3. In there a minimum/maximum amount for a grant request?
Responsive grants generally range between $5,000 and $50,000.

  4. Does DCFSL make multi-year grants?
Ordinarily, grants will be for one year only. The Foundation will consider two year grants based on project need and funding availability.

  5. Does DCFSL have a preference for new programs or ongoing operations?
The Foundation has a preference for established programs and organizations. Ordinarily, start-up organizations are not eligible to apply.

  6. What is the application review process?
A review committee will read all Letters of Intent and make a determination on which organizations will be asked to submit a full proposal. After the full proposal has been received, Foundation staff will review the proposals, prepare summaries and make funding recommendations. The Board makes the final decision on funding recommendations.

  7. Is a final report required?
DCFSL requires that an annual status report be received within 12 months of receipt of the Grant Agreement. It is beneficial for an organization to submit their annual status reports on time. Status reports must be submitted to the DCFSL office at least two weeks prior to the due date for a letter of intent. DCFSL will not consider a Letter of Intent from an organization until an annual status report on prior funding has been received and approved by the Foundation. Please see the Status Reports tab.

  8. Can I call the Foundation with any questions I have?
Foundation staff encourages potential applicants to call the Foundation office to discuss project ideas at (314) 802-2060. Foundation staff can offer advice regarding the appropriateness of a project and discuss the information required in a Letter of Intent or full proposal.
